The young Mezzo Soprano Janara Kellerman is quickly making a name for herself among opera lovers and critics often being referred to as “sultry”; “elegant”, “compelling”, and Opera News said she “displays a mezzo timbre velvety as the nap of a big, juicy peach”. This season Ms. Kellerman will sing the Alto Solos in Bach's Magnificat in NYC, as well as, make her debut with Fresno Grand Opera singing the Old Lady in Bernstein's Candide and will again sing Buttercup in HMS Pinafore with Opera Saratoga this summer.

The 2011-2012 season for Ms. Kellerman included a return to San Antonio Opera for a September concert with American Bass, Peter Volpe, following a very successful run in June as Buttercup in HMS Pinafore where the critics acclaimed “The best voice belongs to the textured, smooth mezzo Janara Kellerman as the “poor little Buttercup.”  She also joined OperaMission for their performance of The Marriage of Figaro with the Bryant Park Fall Festival series. Ms. Kellerman also rejoined the Grammy Award Winning composer, Robert Aldridge, for a repeat performance as the Alto Soloist in his grand work for chorus, orchestra and soloists, Parables.  She joined the Liederkranz Opera Theatre as Fatme in Spohr's Zemire und Azor  and collaborated with Broadway composer, Daniel Lincoln, on his concert "4 Scores and 7 Shows Ago"  at the Laurie Beechman Theatre benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids.

She was invited by the Continuo Arts Foundation to be featured in concert in December.  She joined the Topeka Symphony as the Mezzo Soloist for the world premier of Parables. Ms. Kellerman had worked previously with Mr. Aldridge when she stepped in last minute as Sharon Falconer in his opera Elmer Gantry. She returned to sing the role of Amneris in Aida in New Jersey with Maestro Jason Tramm after a very successful performance of Fenena in Verdi’s Nabucco.

Her rich, velvety mezzo voice wrapped itself around every emotion, from anger to charm to pity. She clearly was the finest actor on stage as well, compelling in every scene.”

Making  her title role debut in Carmen with the Des Moines Metro Opera. Critics said “with her thick black hair, smoldering gaze and brazen swagger, Kellerman casts a spell more potent than any cloud of smoke. She deftly combines her character’s dramatic sense of abandon with the score’s demand for vocal control.”

Ms. Kellerman completed her first recording with the Michael O’Neal Singers in Atlanta as the alto soloist in Honegger’s King David in which the Atlanta Journal said “all the soloists were very good, especially Janara Kellerman – a creamy, rich mezzo”
